EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EMDR is an elegant, interpersonal form of psychotherapy. It is based on the belief that all humans have an inherent adaptive drive toward physical and emotional health. EMDR focuses on the brain’s ability to constantly learn, taking past experiences, and updating them with present information. Adaptive learning is constantly updating memory network systems. Past emotionally-charged experiences often interfere with your updating process. EMDR uses rapid sets of eye movements to help you update disturbing experiences, much like what occurs when we sleep. During sleep, we alternate between regular sleep and REM (rapid eye movement). This sleep pattern helps you process things that are troubling you.
What Is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach designed to help individuals heal from trauma, emotional distress, and other psychological challenges. EMDR uses guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation to support the brain’s natural ability to process and resolve disturbing memories and emotions.
During an EMDR session, you’ll be asked to focus on a specific traumatic memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation. This process helps reframe how the memory is stored in the brain, reducing its emotional impact and promoting healing.
EMDR for Trauma and PTSD
If you’re living with the effects of trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), EMDR can offer a path to recovery. Together, we will identify and work through distressing memories so that they no longer hold power over your daily life. EMDR is a proven, structured approach to reduce trauma symptoms and support emotional well-being.
EMDR for Chronic Pain Relief
EMDR therapy is not limited to emotional trauma—it can also be a powerful tool for managing chronic pain. Many individuals experience relief when the emotional and psychological components of their pain are addressed. By processing the underlying memories or beliefs tied to pain, EMDR can reduce intensity and improve your overall quality of life.
EMDR for Performance and Personal Growth
EMDR isn’t just for healing the past—it’s also an effective tool for enhancing future performance. Whether you’re an athlete, artist, entrepreneur, or student, EMDR can help you overcome mental blocks, boost confidence, and improve focus. By targeting self-limiting beliefs and reinforcing positive imagery, EMDR prepares you for success in high-pressure situations.
